Group Technical Manager - Home base

My client is a global specialty chemicals company who are going through phenomenal growth and transformation. They are upgrading their manufacturing plants and expanding their manufacturing footprint through brownfield developments and acquisitions over upcoming years.

This is a newly created role and a very rare opportunity to be at the forefront of the growth of a well-established chemical business, with the chance to put your own stamp on things and be a key player in driving the business forward.

My client is renowned for how they look after their people, with strong values and ethics.

They are looking for a Group Technical Manager to oversee the transfer of products from R&D through to commercialisation and manage the contract/third party manufacturers. This person would be the POC for tollers, through sourcing, onboarding, maintaining and managing them to ensure the company are using the right providers. The Group Technical Manager will work closely with the global sites, R&D and internal & external stakeholders to ensure the right suppliers are being used. And new products selected on to the relevant processing plant.

The Group Technical Manager will also be instrumental in providing support to major projects and the global process safety programme as well as providing technical support to all sites to support continuous improvement of all chemical processes.

The role involves regular monthly travel to visit new tollers and spend time working with them as well as visiting plants globally to coordinated and ensure product movement and technical compliance.

The Group Technical Manager must have a polymer chemical background (ideally resins) and be a strong well-rounded leader to work cross functionally in a facilitative and process focused manner.

This role can be based at any of their manufacturing sites in the world or alternatively be home-based with travel to site approx. a week a month.

Required Experience:

Degree qualified or equivalent in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Materials/Polymers
Exceptional leadership skills, with experience of managing teams in both matrix set-up and directly
Very strong and proven practical understanding of commonly used composite manufacturing techniques and processes
Stakeholder management skills to communicate at all levels internally and externally
Experience of a supplier/customer-facing technical role and managing external manufacturing partners
Track record of proven process improvement projects
Demonstrated experience of process safety, risk assessment, plant design and risk mitigation
Knowledge of global chemical regulations
Fluent in English language - written and verbal
Quality conscious with a methodical and analytical approach
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
Other language skills beneficial
