We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our nationally recognized nonprofit. This role is an excellent opportunity to utilize and expand your accounting skills in a rewarding and mission-driven environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the finance team to ensure the smooth operation of all financial matters. The role requires a high level of precision, an ability to work independently, and strong problem-solving skills. The Accounting Specialist will report directly to the Finance Manager and will assist with the development and maintenance of financial procedures and systems.

Job Details

Responsibilities:
1. Perform daily financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data.
2. Prepare bills, invoices, and bank deposits.
3. Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
4. Facilitate payment of invoices due by sending bill reminders and contacting clients.
5. Generate financial statements and reports detailing accounts receivable status.
6. Execute month-end close procedures and postings.
7. Support the Finance Manager in ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met.
8. Prepare financial management reports, including financial planning and forecasting.
9. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes.
10. Continuously manage and support budget and forecast activities.
11. Collaborate with the finance department to support overall department goals and objectives.
12. Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
13. Respond to inquiries from the director of finance, and other finance and firm-wide managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
14. Work with the finance manager to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.

Qualifications:
1. A high school diploma or bachelor's degree preferred.
2. A minimum of 2 years of hands-on accounting experience.
3. Experience working in the non-profit sector is a plus.
4. Proficient in accounting software and MS Office (especially Excel).
5. Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
6. High attention to detail and accuracy.
7. Ability to direct and supervise.
8. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
9. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
10. Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
11. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff, both internally and externally.
12. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
13. Experience in a non-profit organization preferred, but not required.
