About the Role:

Job Summary

Performs various security related duties to ensure the safety of hospital patients, visitors and staff. Security Police Officers will also assume various law enforcement duties including, investigating crimes and enforcing all laws of the county and state in an efficient and effective manner. Security Police Officers may also be called to respond to situations that are highly dangerous, stressful and unpredictable, requiring quick judgment. Security Police Officers will report their daily activities in a log and/or incident reports; and conduct other duties assigned by the Security Supervisor. All law enforcement function reports (arrests), will be done per individual agencies policy and procedures.



Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Valid GA Driver's License.

  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.

  • Minimum Experience: Must be an active law enforcement officer with Agency approval for uniformed secondary employment. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of Law Enforcement experience.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal, state, and county laws pertaining to law enforcement officers, investigation procedures and techniques, sponsoring law enforcement agencies rules and regulations, first aid and CPR

  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action. Must be able to approach situations tactfully, courteously, and with respect for the rights of others.

  • Have the ability to interpret established rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to both NGHS Security Services and individual law enforcement agencies

  • Must have updated firearms qualification through a POST certified instructor

  • Defensive Tactics training that meet Georgia law enforcement requirements



Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Routine and random tours are made of facility and grounds using established patrolling techniques and reporting all findings. Lighting surveys of campus and buildings. All hazardous conditions that may exist. All situations requiring maintenance. Aesthetic needs to uphold the image of the facility.

  • Computer skills acquired to make our Windows based reporting programs more effective. All written reports are legible, concise and completed in a timely manner.

  • Initiate investigations on security or risk management incidents and report findings daily to the supervisor and coordinator. Accidents (pedestrian or vehicle) and injuries. Thefts. Disturbances. Complaints.

  • Initiate/participate in training drills and proper documentation of each completed according to NGHS policy/procedure as required by DNV, OSHA, NFPA, law or other regulatory agency. Fire drills, fire safety/response training. Bomb threat drills, response/search drills. Infant/Child Abduction drills and education. Workplace Violence drills and education. Theft prevention/personal safety education.

  • Attend Staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled. Be on time and and active participation.

  • POST certified firearms instructors. Documentation of qualification must be provided annually.

  • A passing score has been achieved through sponsoring law enforcement agencies.

  • Weapon is maintained in a clean and operational manner and is of the type specified by individual law enforcement agencies departmental policy.

  • Weapon is loaded with law enforcement agencies approved ammunition.

  • A minimum of 16 hours of professional training, in accordance with state regulations, is completed annually and documented proof has been presented.

  • Professional or manufacturer certification has been obtained for all defensive tools and equipment in use. Documented proof for same has been presented.

  • Interest in assisting newer officers in identifying strengths and weaknesses in performance of task. Officer has also sought out and attended training on his/her own and documented proof presented. POST training hours will be accepted.

  • Act on request for assistance in a timely manner. Unlock/lock doors. Motor vehicle assistance (jump starts, lost keys, flat tires). Escorts of funds. Safety escorts to parking lots. All public concerns.

  • Successfully negotiate with and gain the cooperation and compliance from the hospital publics to maintain the policies and procedures of the institution and defray confrontation when possible.

  • Solicit, encourage and answer questions from the hospital's public while demonstrating a positive willingness to assist them.

  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and accountability when handling funds, valuables and items of property.

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage time wisely, prioritize calls and share workloads to assure that tasks are completed in a timely manner.

  • When assigned special duties/tasks, the officer carry them out and report the findings back to the supervisor and/or coordinator in an expedient manner.

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform emergency procedures (codes, fire or disaster codes) according to policy.

  • Respond without prompting to confrontation situations for back up and support of other officers or hospital staff.

  • Develop communication skills to de-escalate confrontational situations. Interpersonal skills; Non-violent crisis intervention; Ability to know how to compromise and refer to a higher level.

  • Use all the equipment of the department and maintain it in good operational condition.

  • Frequently observe CCTV system looking for suspicious/unusual activity.

  • Knowledgeable of and adhere to all federal, state and local laws as well as the facility policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrate the ability to interview a wide variety of individuals in a courteous and unbiased manner.

  • Demonstrate good judgment in prioritizing requests and responding to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients.

  • Under the most extreme conditions, maintain a level of compassion and understanding keeping the patients care, welfare, safety and security in mind as well as all others involved.

  • Under the above conditions, maintain a highly professional attitude (verbally and physically) and exhibit the ability to use the minimum level of force on the continuum to gain the advantage during a physical confrontation.

  • Attend mandatory protective equipment training and maintain proficiency regarding usage.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.

  • Anticipated personal protective equipment for job performance: Handcuffs. MACE 10% Pepper Foam. ASP Baton. Smith & Wesson, M & P .40 caliber. Tactical elbow and knee pads and padded foam shields. Safety glasses, face shields. Reflective vest and gloves. Latex gloves, masks, protective clothing. N95 face mask. Powered air purifying respirator (PAPR).

  • Ensures integrity of hospital issued and personally provided protective equipment.
