Senior Learning Instructional Designer

*This is not a contract/ Consultant position.


The Senior Learning Instructional Designer will assess learning needs, design and develop instructional programs for employees to develop their skills and improve human and organizational performance. The trainging audience may include the individual contributors as well as all levels of a department or team. The Senior ID will be responsible for the design and creation of engaging learning activities and compelling course content. They will work closely with subject matter experts and identify the target audience's training needs. Senior ID will apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods. They will facilitate learners in aquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source and create learning content for the development of learning resources for professional education and training
  • Analysis of organizational learning needs and goals and the development of delivery systems that meets those needs
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and knowledge transfer
  • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience's training needs
  • State instructional end goals and create content that matches them
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methodologies
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
  • Create supporting educational materials/media (audio, presentations, documents, glossaries, study guides, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
  • Communication with students (forum, social media, email etc.)
  • Determine criteria used to judge learner's performance and develop assessment instruments
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Supports the configuration and overall administration of the LMS
  • Creates training courses and curricula within the LMS. Ensures up-to-date courses, revision management and user updates are correct

Other Job Functions:

  • Instructional delivery of training content may be required
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position

Education/Training Required:

  • BS or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or equivalent experience

Experience Required:

  • 5-7 years of proven progressive working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology across a variety of industries and business units

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Basic HTML and Adobe Premiere knowledge
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Ability to engage and partner with customers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, very approachable, highly articulate must be a talented listener and observer

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Intermittent walking to gain access to work areas
  • Finger dexterity sufficient to use a computer and to complete paperwork activities
  • Vision sufficient to use a computer, to read written materials and to complete paperwork activities
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals by telephone and in person
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Work Environment:

  • Office setting with quiet to moderate noise levels in temperature controlled environment
  • Works in other areas at the facility as needed to include regular jobsite visits
  • Job sites that may include shared office space and temporary provisions including portable toilets as required by project constraints
