Background Information of the John Craig Sports Centre
The John Craig Centre opened in September 2015 and named after the well-respected teacher John Craig who retired in 2015.
The all-weather pitch and the sports centre building cost the Academy £2m and took just over a year to build.
The idea of the John Craig centre was to add a state of the art complex to for the use of Bradford Academy pupils and for the local community.
The new site added a state of art all weather pitch and a sports centre that has a gym and a classroom that changes into a vibrant lounge area in the evening for the local community use.
Over the years that the centre has been open, the all-weather pitch has attracted teams like Bradford City, Bradford Bulls, Yorkshire Cricket team & Leeds united. The new centre has attracted local football teams to use the centre as their base and have seen local teams like Bradford Warriors thrive and attract 100's of players to the centre with our fantastic amenities.
The centre has also grass football pitches, which include 11v11, 9v9 & 7v7 pitches that are in full use over the weekends.
The centre also has a Tarmac hardcourt (MUGA) sports such as Netball and Tennis played on this pitch, the MUGA is floodlit.
The centre also has two sports halls, a dance room and cater for birthday parties.
To ensure the comfort and safety of all the users of the john Craig Sports Centre. To undertake a range of duties to enable the smooth and efficient operation of the centre.
You will be responsible to the Facilities Manager - Darren Webster but will liaise with the John Craig Centre Accountant - Annika Farrar closely re the financial running of the John Craig Centre.
Take responsibility on an individual basis for specific areas of operation as required by the Facilities Manager
You will be required to become familiar with the schools Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of the children.
At all times the John Craig Sports Centre entrance and exit barriers are to be closed and only opened once the person(s) are greeted and knowledge is gained for their reason to be on site, failure to follow this safeguarding rule will be deemed as failure to uphold the schools safeguarding rules and disciplinary action will be taken.
Main tasks and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
Report any maintenance issues immediately, Annika Farrar will attend the John Craig Centre every Monday and will do a walk around the site with the on duty staff, all check sheets are checked and areas reviewed ensuring the site is safe and confirm that no outstanding repair issues are still outstanding.
Maintain vigilant supervision of the Gym at all times.
Maintain vigilant supervision of the changing rooms at all times.
Health and Safety - Cont.
Ensure staff carry out hourly patrols of the external pitches and that all customers are using the facilities in a correct manner.
Ensure the external pitches are in a safe state before use by the customers
Ensure downtime of equipment and facilities, are kept to a minimum through the timely reporting of failures and breakdowns and the ongoing monitoring of these failures
Promote a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the John Craig Centre and be an advocate for proactive safety management
Deal with customers at all times in a friendly and professional manner
Deliver the needs of the John Craig Sports centre users as programmed
Reception work: deal with visitors, respond to telephone enquiries and use a computer for online queries
Support the work of the team, contribute to meetings, develop good practices within the team and assist colleagues in their work.
Undertake, chair and prepare minutes for team meetings
Work alongside the Financial Accountant preparing staff rotas and arranging alternative cover in the event of sickness or absence
Assist the Facilities Manager by ensuring that all staff carry out their duties for the smooth and effective day-to-day operation of the sports centre.
This includes monitoring the cleanliness and maintenance of the buildings, the fabric, fittings and equipment.
Complete duty checklists and make routine day-to-day operational decisions
Assist the Facilities Manager with recruitment and development of staff, undertaking personal development reviews on an annual basis
Clean both inside and outside of the facilities in order to maintain the centres operation and standards of presentation
Ensure facilities and equipment are prepared appropriately and promptly
Contribute to and help promote positive communication across the organisation
Assist in the fitness suite, as and when required
Ensure the safe and proper use of facilities at all times
Patrol the buildings and carry out hourly periodic checks
Be the designated key holder
Responsible for the day-to-day management of all cash receipts
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the daily lettings spreadsheet
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the daily checks sheets
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the food/merchandise stock levels
Responsible for the day-to-day management of advising Finance of sales invoices that need raising
Ensure the security of the premises are maintained at all times
Undergo training as required by the Facilities Manager, including attendance at off-site courses
Comply with the John Craig centres Health & Safety procedures at all times, adhering to the Sports Centres normal operating procedures and Emergency Action Plan.
