SAS Data Integration Architect/Developer

The SAS Data Integration Architect/Developer will be the technical lead in architecting, designing and implementing the SAS Data Management Solution.

Successful candidates will possess:

  1. Outsanding communication skills, including the ability to facilitate and communicate business requirements definitions
  2. Experience in designing and developing Data Management applications and using SAS Data Management Solution\ (SAS DataFlux) tools and Master Data Mangement concepts\implementation.
  3. Strong understanding of standard development methodology (Systems Development Life-cycle) for both implementation and maintenance projects
  4. Thorough understanding of and experience in structured programming methodology
  5. Skill in gathering and documenting user requirements and writing technical specifications, 6) proven customer relationship skills
  6. Strong SAS 9.4 DI tools (SAS DI Studio or Data Management Studio), SQL, Oracle database development skills
  7. Fundamental understanding of Master Data Management Concepts

SAS Data Integration Architect/Developer will be responsible for managing a Database application at a major health insurance company. Primary responsibilities include mapping data from multiple sources (including DB2, Oracle, Teradata, flat files, Excel), implementing and maintaining the data flows and loading the data into the Data Mart / Repository. The consultant will be required to design/develop/maintain the data model for the SAS Analytical/Reporting Data mart for optimal efficiencies. In addition, experience with the SAS MDM solution is preferred. A critical responsibility of this position will include the management of the existing SAS MDM application - including managing matching rules, survivorship and data quality routines.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Gathering data requirements and designing/developing the Data Warehouse/ Data Marts
  • Performing analytical and programming activities including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of integrating the data management solutions
  • Functioning as subject matter expert for using SAS Data Management Solution (Data Integration Studio or Data Management Studio).


  • As part of a multi-disciplinary project team (business systems analysts, SAS developers, database administrators, IT Systems, software architects and IT support) the consultant works to analyze and define customer requirements for viable technical solutions.
  • Designs and develops reusable software modules that meet customer requirements while upholding high standards of reliability, security, maintainability, and performance.
  • Enhances client's datamarts and the enterprise data warehouse by working closely with internal and external teams. Participates in strategic planning to improve the organization's ability to produce reports and data requirements for end-users.
  • Creates 'Best Practices' guidelines for creating and maintaining SAS projects/programs; participate in peer reviews for designs, code, and other work products.
  • Works closely with the Data Warehouse team to ensure data changes are aligned with business requirements.
  • Provides production, development, QA support and performance tuning as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Presents technical information to non-technical business users as to how to optimize and enhance reporting needs.
  • Advises management on how products and processes could be improved. Identify and evaluate industry trends in Analytical systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to less experience SAS personnel on using SAS tools. Provides guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on SAS systems, or process-related topics.

The consultant must have 5+ years in Data Warehousing, Data Modeling, and Data Architecting and must be an expert level with SAS Data Management Studio. The client would prefer intermediate or better experience with SAS Data Integration Studio.


Experience driving SAS Data Management solutions with SAS 9.4 including:

  • 5+ years or more of Data Warehousing implementation experience and experience developing technical solutions with SAS Data Management.
  • Mush have in-depth Data Warehousing experience and implementation experience.
  • Must know SAS Data Integration Studio (Prefers DI Studio 4.9 exp). At least 2 years' experience with DI Studio.
  • Must have SAS Data Management Studio and DataFlux products experience. At least 1 years experience with DM Studio (2.2 or better). SAS MDM Experience preferred.
  • Must be able to build and maintain SAS Data Management jobs, job flows and architect data models.
  • Designing, developing and implementing the DI Studio job flows to load the data into SAS and Oracle.
  • Ability to develop new data loads to existing data warehouse.
  • Must be able to read, and understand existing coding and processing to troubleshoot and resolved issues as they arise.
  • Must be able to perform both production support role as well as new development tasks.
  • Data Modeling, Data Architecting and ETL architecting expertise is required.
  • Integrating and managing the data mappings from the client's data sources (mainly MS-SQL Server) to the SAS Data Warehouse using SAS Data Management Solution.
    • Designing, developing and implementing the DI Studio job flows to load the data into SAS and Oracle.
    • Lead and/or actively participate in SAS knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Be proficient in Base SAS programming (DATA step), SQL programming (i.e., use of SQL pass-through or PROC SQL), as well as the SAS Macro language for use in making code more efficient.
  • Creating and using Stored Processes for the creation of customized content.
  • Good written and spoken communications skills in English and thought-leadership skills.
