Description
Are you someone who enjoys supporting an organization's safety mission through the management of safety processes? Solar Transport is searching for a Safety Specialist that will assist in the implementation of safety management controls that direct conduct of all safety sensitive employees consistent with regulations/best practices relating to motor carrier safety and transportation of hazardous materials. What you'll do
  • Driver Coaching
    • Maintain and manage the Fleet Truck Camera system and its reporting
    • Identify Driver at-risk behaviors from the Fleet Truck Camera system
    • Conduct coaching with Drivers & Dispatch on at-risk behaviors identified and communicate with the ROM to address both adverse and exemplary behaviors
    • Maintain Driver scorecards
    • Respond to Driver Safety related concerns and issues
    • Maintain and oversee the Solar Learning Management System (SLMS) for Safety & Compliance training
  • Safety Management System
    • Develop and maintain Safety & Compliance programs (OSHA & Solar Transport), including Driver Safety, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Incident Management, Return-to-Work, New Hire Orientation, PPE, and all such other programs
    • Audit effectiveness and compliance to the Solar Safety & Compliance Programs through analyzing data, field verifications, audits, and all such other tools and data that the Company has available
    • Identify gaps and requirements to ensure compliance and reduce risk, including recommending and producing solutions to address
    • Maintain personal awareness of changes, developments or new Safety & Compliance regulation, such as those from OSHA, EPA, DHS, FMCSA
    • Assist Director of Risk, Safety & Compliance with the Company's Safety Management System, including developing and evaluating annual improvement plans
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Assist in maintaining compliance reports for business & legal reporting needs
    • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping requirements, including, but not limited to OSHA logs, OSHA 300A, and such similar reports assigned by the Director
  • Support, Miscellaneous
    • Researching Safety & Compliance best practices and evaluating "fit" within Solar Transport, such as "Safety Day Events"
    • Promotes Safety in various interactions with employees and at functions/events
    • Assist with the administration of the safety awards program, including Annual safety awards- develop certificates; order pins, trinkets, etc.
    • Up to 20% travel
What we're looking for
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of risk reduction techniques for injuries/illnesses, such as root cause analysis
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented and results driven
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while simultaneously processing multiple tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer (proficiency in Microsoft Excel), telephone and customer service skills
Other key requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year College or university preferred or 5+ years of comparable work experience in a safety role; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
