Principal Infrastructure Network Engineer

Job Purpose/ Role
Implement and manage IT Infrastructure in compliance with IT strategies and road-maps, as well as provide technical support in an integrated, multi-platform system environment. This includes: system hardware, software, desktop, networks, voice communications, disaster recovery, monitoring, and security. Ensure availability and accessibility of CLIENT infrastructure systems accordingly to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Collaborate with third party vendors and manage delivery of contracted services ensuring compliance with CLIENT processes and best practices. Engage with other IT departments and business partners to translate business objectives into cohesive recommendations and solutions, define infrastructure design, and deliver quality services and solutions. Evaluate and implement new products available through outside vendors. Establish and document operational standards and procedures.
Additional responsibilities for the Network Engineer: Responsible for the design, installation, configuration, maintenance, system integration testing, documentation, capacity management and support of network routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers and wireless infrastructure. Manage the planning and designing of new networks, and ensure appropriate interface capabilities with other networks and systems. Proactively monitor and manage Networks for faults and performance exceptions. Implement and support wide area network services and routing protocols. Provides coaching to junior-level employees.
Design, install, configure, and maintain network (Cisco IOS, NX-OS, and associated connected systems) and/or telephony systems, related utilities, and hardware.
Manage work requests related to network and/or telephony systems including incident response, service requests, and change requests.
Perform analysis and diagnosis of complex voice and data network issues.
Provide operational oversight of Infrastructure vendor performance, including maintenance of SLA's, aged incidents, capacity planning, and problem resolution.
Design and configure network and/or telephony (i.e. IP IVR) scripts.
Review monitoring and control of infrastructure performance in the areas of response, throughput, and availability.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture and vendor partners to a) evaluate applicable technology trends, b) research, evaluate and recommend enterprise network and/or telephony products/protocols/technologies, and c) establish network and/or telephony system.
Develop and maintain documentation of the design, implementation and operation of network and/or telephony infrastructure and processes.
Serve as a mentor to other Infrastructure Engineers
Key Requirements/ Skills
7 years of experience planning and implementing large scale, multi-vendor networks in corporate and service provider environments including specific experience with routing, switching, and network security services (firewalls, proxy etc.). Direct experience maintaining and supporting Cisco network infrastructure and services including in-depth analysis and problem resolution. Experience with Python, Ansible and other network automation tools in a large, distributed environment. Direct business partner/customer contact to understand technical requirements and deliver systems to solve business problems.
Four-year degree required: Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, or similar or equivalent work experience.
8-10 years experience preferred including demonstrated leadership within a technical team and in support of multiple project teams as part of a large-scale, complex environment.
Basic understanding of ITIL Principals and/or ITIL Foundation Certification.
Technical Certification in information technology and/or demonstrated ability through work experience.- provided by Dice
