Following recent contract awards we are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Mechanical Engineer to work within one of our Submarines Business Unit based in Derby. Within the Business Unit we execute complex and diverse engineering projects from initial concept through to fully engineered turnkey solutions for our broad customer base.
On joining us you will be leading a team of engineers and designers based at our design offices as well as customer sites where you will be expected to undertake a senior role handling the design elements of engineering projects from initial customer requirements through to final project handover.
To be successful in this role it is essential that you quickly become an integrated and valued member of the team and demonstrate an excellent team approach to your working practices.
You will be expected to contribute strongly to all projects and may be required to apply any specialist knowledge which you hold in the execution of your duties. You will also be expected to support the training, development and mentoring of engineers and designers within your team.

Location: Mallard House, Stanier Way, Derby DE21 6BF with travel to customer sites
Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible start and finish times)
Qualifications and experience required to apply for the role:
Degree in a relevant engineering or business discipline or equivalent level of continuous professional development and experience (ideally in the defence engineering environment).
Have a proven track record in project delivery and the ability to operate in a complex environment
Experienced in leading multi-disciplinary design teams
Proven experience in creating a successful technical client relationship
Ability to assist in the development of processes and procedures that drive business continuous improvement and efficiency
Experience in design / draughting software
