Scope of Service: Operational payroll support to the business to ensure processing of monthly payroll, accurately and on time. Support managers and Colleagues to resolve problems and address queries to any aspect of pay or benefits. Liaise with external parties to provide payroll information and respond to any queries. Lead or support cross functional projects, i.e. Government legislation changes, business changes or system/process improvements.
Key Deliverables: Operational payroll support
Provide payroll support to ensure all aspects of Colleague pay are delivered accurately and to deadline
Support managers and Colleagues with resolving problems and addressing queries
Complex technical payroll calculations regarding Company and Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay. Liaise with Colleagues, managers and HR as required
Review and checking of starters and leavers to ensure correct payroll setup and processing.
Miscellaneous payroll calculations as required (e.g. temporary allowances, shift substitutions, Court Orders, Jury service deductions etc
Management and prioritisation of own tasks to ensure fixed deadlines are achieved
Identify process issues and improvement potentials
Scope and agree activities with Payroll Manager
Lead cross functional team to develop solutions as appropriate (lead role for smaller projects, support for larger projects)
Develop and implement system and process enhancements to support business and legal change
Testing of new SAP configuration / work patterns
Liaise with business areas, managers and colleagues to identify required reports.
Develop and produce ad hoc query report as required
Preparation of scheduled reporting (e.g. overtime, Time Banking balances, Working Time Accounts, approved and unapproved absences)
Online reporting to external parties (e.g. HMRC, pensions administrators)
Respond to information requests from solicitors, insurance companies, banks, building societies, Child Support Agency, Courts, HM Revenue & Customs
Correspond with leavers in respect of any post leaving matters (e.g. over or underpayments)
Significant experience of a large complex payroll which must be delivered to fixed deadlines.
Delivery to tight deadlines and able to influence others.
Good communication skills and ability to convey complex technical information at all levels
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to identify problems in payroll data or processing, work cross functionally to identify route cause and to propose solutions
Prioritisation and task management to ensure fixed deadlines are achieved.
Technical Skills: Comprehensive technical knowledge with regard to relevant legislation and professional standards:
Employment tax legislation covering all aspects of pay and benefits
Social security legislation
Regulations regarding Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay and Statutory Paternity Pay
Advanced SAP HR Payroll experience
Intermediate Excel knowledge
Understanding of the practical application of the above and other payroll technical aspects and able to communicate this technical knowledge to non-specialists to ensure understanding.
Educated to at least A level standard
Recognised Payroll Qualification is essential
