Health, Safety and Occupational Hygiene Consultant
Location: Glasgow, Central Scotland
Salary: Competitive, DOE
Contract: Full time, Permanent
Mabbett, an independent integrated environmental, health and safety, energy consulting and engineering firm, was established in 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland. Since then, the firm has grown to employ over 30 motivated engineers, scientists and supporting professionals across the U.K. We have regional offices in Rosyth and Belfast.
The firm is seeking to recruit an Occupational Hygienist / H&S Consultant to join our growing Safety team in the Glasgow office. The position may require travel, including overnight stays, throughout the U.K., and potentially work trips to Ireland and Europe depending on project requirements.

The Role:
The successful candidate will work as a member of the Process Engineering and Safety Team and complete projects including, but will not be limited to:
• Occupational Hygiene Monitoring, e.g. air monitoring, occupational noise assessments.
• Thorough examinations and tests of LEV systems.
• Health and Safety legal compliance audits and inspections, including developing tailored legal registers and prioritised action plans.
• Site specific risk assessments, e.g. COSHH, Manual Handling and DSE.
• On-site support (e.g. acting as the on-site Health and Safety Advisor).
• Training - design and delivery of training, seminars and facilitation of workshops.
The successful candidate(s) will also provide marketing and business development support, identifying new clients and opportunities, to support the growth and expansion of the firm.
The position will require travel (including occasional overnight stays) throughout the U.K. and Europe depending on project requirements; company pool/hire cars are available for business travel.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Education and Experience:
• BOHS accredited degree or Honours or Master's Degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, environmental health, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related subject.
• It is also desirable that the successful candidate possess one or more of the following:
o 2-5 years' experience in occupational hygiene monitoring, e.g. air monitoring for hazardous substances, conducting occupational noise assessments, carrying out thorough examinations and tests of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems.
o Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene, or working towards attaining this.
o Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislation and requirements.
o Graduate membership of IOSH and working towards chartership
Personal Attributes:
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to demonstrate personal initiative, motivation for the role, project management skills, good customer management skills, and good written and presentation skills. However, lengthy demonstrations of these points at the application stage is not required. These aspects will be discussed in detail at interview stage.
The candidate will also:
• be proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages.
• have a full U.K. driving licence and clean driver record.
• have a valid passport.
