As Special Olympics Maryland seeks to reach 20,000 athletes by the year 2025, the engagement of athlete family members is crucial to our growth. As part of our holistic services, the Family Program of Special Olympics Maryland provides family members of athletes opportunities to socialize, provide feedback, and gain important information as it relates to disabilities services throughout the year. The Family Services Intern provides direct support to the Special Olympics Maryland Family Coordinator in the planning and implementation of event-based Family Registration & Hospitality, and the Family Education Conference. Specific Responsibilities: - Assist with the planning and implementation with the fall Family Education Conference(s) including: planning presentation content, recruitment of keynote speaker and workshop facilitators, participant registration, venue logistics, and event evaluation. - Manage Family Registration Database to accurately track family involvement throughout the program year. Accurately portray family involvement through diagnostics for Special Olympics International Census. - If schedule allows, attend weekend events to meet family members and assist with family hospitality and registration at events and competition. - Produce "Family Facts" - pre-competition fact sheets for families of athletes competing, which includes information like venue location, competition schedule, local restaurants, etc. - Assist Family Coordinator in researching resources related to disability services for inclusion on family resource website. Desired Qualifications: - Current college student seeing a credit-based internship. - Preferred Majors: Special Education, Family Studies, Sociology, Psychology, or similar - Comfort with technology including social media, Microsoft Office, email, etc. - Enjoys working with people, good communication skills and sense of humor.
